IOM, UNHCR – Client and project information

UNHCR, also known as the UN Refugee Agency, is a United Nations program with the mandate to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people, and assist in their voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement to a third country.

IOM is the International Organization for Migration is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners.

Both UNHCR and IOM are based in Geneva, Switzerland.

    Refugee Resettlement needs

As we have mentioned in the previous article about the Refugee Statistic app, we are witnessing the highest levels of displacement on record. Unprecedented  79.5 million people around the world are forcibly displaced from their homes. Every 20 minutes, people leave their homes in order to save themselves from war and terror in their countries.

The majority of refugees are hosted in low and middle-income countries. Although the generosity of these countries is unquestionable, there is an acute need for sharing the responsibility of a growing number of refugees more evenly.

The Global Compact on Refugees proposed the development of a Three-Year-Strategy on Resettlement and Complementary Pathways in order to increase the resettlement and to improve complementary pathways. This strategy is a result of various consultations with stakeholders.  It represents a blueprint to develop third-country solutions through a vision that will achieve goals relevant to the Global Compact on Refugees in the coming years.

CRISP – A digital step to settling the problem of resettlement

The CRISP platform is intended to facilitate a solution for global resettlement. It is a tremendous initiative and its impact is a big deal for all of us at Hexis. Working on a tool that holds the key to helping resettling countries has been both an honor and a challenge for us.

    Solution? – A go-to platform

Having already collaborated with UNHCR on Resettlement Statistics Query and Resettlement Statistics Report, we were not new to the topic of global migration. This time, our task was to build a platform that would be used by all of the actors involved in a resettlement process – primarily new countries that want to introduce the resettlement program or enhance the existing one. The platform would offer experiences from other countries, tools, reference points, and research related to resettlement and complementary pathways.

    How it works

The target audience of this platform ranges from government officials, practitioners, service providers, receiving communities, partners, donors, as well as IOM and UNHCR staff. The platform directly engages each participant in relation to their role in the resettlement process to facilitate their efforts. The website also creates a network of experts and promotes a culture of learning from one another. Finally, it advocates for more resettlement and complementary pathway opportunities.

    To conclude…

Working on this project has been a great honor for us…not just for us as a development agency, but us as people.

Once again we have been reminded that we need to fight for an inclusive world, especially for those who cannot fight for themselves.

At this point, the world refugee crisis is at its peak. More and more people are losing their homes, and risking their lives on difficult journies in order to protect their families.

Although the immensity of the world refugee crisis is hard to grasp, we believe that raising awareness can help make it easier for others to understand the extent of refugees’ struggle around the world.
