Pauline Haupt

Communications associate for comprehensive refugee responses@UNHCR

I am writing in support of the software development company Hexis, who I have worked closely with for the development of the UNHCR website www.globalcrrf.org for the past 10 months. I can say without a doubt that I am thoroughly satisfied with Hexis' delivery of work. Hexis has been highly supportive in creating specific design and development requirements, they are adhering to deadlines agreed upon, and have set up a constant communication flow to provide the space to discuss progress or new requirements. The company's staff performs exceptionally professionally and dedicated, and their delivery of work has always been outstanding, in particular with regards to reacting to ad-hoc requests.

I can confidently recommend the company Hexis as a service provider and software development company for any other future assignment, and without a doubt, can say that I would always choose to work with the company again.

Client Overview

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stands as a globally recognized institution dedicated to safeguarding the well-being and rights of refugees and displaced persons. Operating on an international scale, UNHCR plays a pivotal role in addressing the unique challenges faced by displaced populations worldwide.

Faced with data management issues that hindered their operational efficiency, UNHCR sought Hexis as a trusted partner to develop a solution that could streamline their data processes and enhance the accessibility and reliability of refugee statistics.

The challenge

UNHCR approached Hexis with a complex challenge: their data was fragmented, susceptible to human error, and lacked global accessibility. The project kicked off with a shared vision to address these critical challenges, focusing on improving the management and utilization of refugee statistics, data, and analytics.

The expansive and diverse nature of UNHCR's operations highlighted the need for a unified data collection and documentation system. Existing inefficiencies led to delayed reports and raised concerns about the credibility of the data, questioning the hard work of UNHCR staff. Recognizing the urgency, a comprehensive and user-friendly solution was deemed necessary to unlock the full potential of refugee statistics and better serve displaced populations globally.

The solution

Hexis approached the solution with a commitment to practicality and success by incorporating existing working methods into the new software. The outcome was:

  1. Refugee Statistics Repository (RSR): Hexis developed a dynamic platform that categorized data into three essential groups – Country of Origin, Country of Asylum, and Country of Resettlement.
  2. User-Friendly Input: Staff could input data manually or seamlessly import it from Excel sheets directly into the RSR, reducing errors and improving efficiency.
  3. Seamless Integration: The RSR seamlessly integrated with existing workflows, ensuring a smooth transition and adoption by UNHCR staff.

The outcome

Hexis played a crucial role in helping UNHCR shed light on accurate and easily accessible statistical data. The new custom software provided UNHCR with:

  1. 100% Compliance Rate: The RSR recorded a remarkable 100% compliance rate from UNHCR staff, showcasing its user-friendly design and practicality.
  2. Centralized Information: Users had access to clear, centralized, and up-to-date information, enhancing the reliability and accessibility of refugee statistics.
  3. Improved Communication: Visualizing data on both the website and the app improved accessibility, fostering more effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
  4. Foundation for Efficiency: The RSR not only addressed immediate challenges but laid the foundation for a more efficient and streamlined process of handling refugee statistics, aligning with UNHCR's mission to protect and support displaced populations worldwide.

In conclusion, the collaboration between UNHCR and Hexis resulted in a successful project that not only met the immediate needs of UNHCR but also set the stage for a more efficient, credible, and globally accessible management of refugee statistics, aligning with UNHCR's mission to protect and support displaced populations worldwide.
